Samuel Berthoud
Guitarist – Musician – Composer
Samuel is a guitar player, musician, composer and educator originating from Geneva and currently based in Basel. He is following a Master’s degree in Music Pedagogy at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK).
He began playing at the age of seven with Manuel Araoz, before joining the Conservatoire Populaire de Musique, Danse et Théâtre de Genève (CPMDT), where he completed a pre-university programme and was awarded prizes for Best Certificate Work in Music and Best Maturity work in Music
Samuel has studied with renowned musicians such as Lionel Loueke, Reinier Baas, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Arthur Hnatek and Petter Eldh. His artistic language draws on a wide spectrum of influences — from traditional jazz to contemporary fusion and progressive metal — which he blends into a personal and innovative musical voice.
On stage, he performs in varied contexts: with the band Fifi's Spaceship, Matteo Bussy, Yuri, No Crime On The Rhine and Sébastien Rudhard Fusion Experiment. Each project reflects his curiosity and his commitment to exploring music in all its diversity. He is also the leader of his own project the Samuel Berthoud Trio, releasing it’s first album at the start of 2026.
Samuel is also teaching via the swiss platform called Instrumentor where he share his passion for music, improvisation and guitar techniques, helping musician to push their level and reach for their boundaries.
Passionate about cinema as well, Samuel has collaborated with the collective VHS Films as a composer and sound engineer, earning awards at the Schweizer Jugendfilmtage, the Bildrausch Festival, and the 48 Hour Film Project.
